"Brave New Babies" by Claudia Kalb
1. "The brave new world is definitely here. After 25 years of staggering advances in reproductive medicine--first test-tube babies, then donor eggs and surrogate mothers--technology is changing baby-making in a whole new way. No longer can science simply help couples have babies, it can help them have the kind of babies they want."
a) "...we're all worried about [traits] like height, personality and intelligence..." In an ideal world what aspects would you most love your future baby to have?
b) What advantages are there to 'tweaking' your child to be better than average? to reproductive technologies more generally?
c) Is the ability to scientifically alter a fetus inevitable? acceptable?
2. What would the ‘ideal’ human of the future be like? Design what you feel
would be the best technologically-enhanced person of the future. This may be a written description or a visual.
