Formal Persuasive Research Essay Students will select an issue to research and argue from contemporary society. Time will be allocated in class for research, and HAND WRITTEN rough NOTES will be an ESSENTIAL component. While completing these, students will also be required to complete an annotated bibliography in order to explain their findings.
Get started by choosing a narrowed subject to research. You may use the Rainbow District School Board's online database to help save time. Some of these will also allow you to take notes digitally, adding in your own commentary about passages as you read. When writing your essays, you need to quote from other sources in order to show you've actually done research. You may paraphrase and cite at times, but you can also work your sources' wordings into your own context to show your writing brilliance. A LACK of quotes and embedded citations is an immediate warning that you are not including all the information you should. After peer editing, these will be typed in order to be edited and graded by the teacher. Proper MLA formatting and structure will be expected by this time! Full citations and appropriate use of quotations, etc. will be required. Upon return, graded essays will be edited and resubmitted as final essays; these should be 4-6 pages in length (approx 1000-1500 words) and will be due no more than a week after their return from the teacher. |
Late Policy
Students are encouraged to submit work in a timely fashion. Correcting and learning from mistakes is an integral part of learning; larger assignments (ex. Essays) may be re-submitted for additional marks if tasks are submitted on the day they are due. Assignments will be accepted for a period of time after due dates, but will be subject to late fees, as outlined below:
* Topic Selection Due: Week of Oct 12, 2022 * Annotated Bibliography Due by week of Nov 23, 2022 * First Draft - due by: Dec 7, 2022
